Who is the Caste System Affecting today?
The caste system is affecting the whole Indian society. All Indians who believe in the Hindu religion belong too a caste and due to which one you belong to, your whole lifestyle is different compared to others. As one Indian expressed it: “it's like you are born with a stamp on your forehead and you can never get rid of it."
The lower castes usually does the dirtier jobs and being an untouchable is truly not easy. As the name suggests, others won’t touch the untouchables, as they are the least worth; the out cast. People who don't belong to a caste, but lives in India, could still be affected by the caste system. It’s everywhere in the Indian society. For example, you can tell by what job someone has or how much respect they have. The caste system affects the relationships too. Marriage between castes are strictly forbidden.
The caste system is a hierarchies system which modern India aren't proud of. It affects the very way India is ruled. The Indian government, made up of the upper castes, has successfully convinced the international community that caste discrimination is an internal, cultural issue. People are discriminated every day even though "discrimination based on caste has been illegal in India for more than six decades."
As one can see, India is greatly affected by its caste system and people suffer because of it in their daily life. In the larger cities, the caste system is not such a big issue as it is on the countryside.

"Nearly half of the voting population of even a highly educated city like Bangalore considers caste to be the number. 1 reason to vote for a candidate."

Is it Affecting America?
The Indian caste system is mainly affecting India. America doesn't have the same type of social class system but it’s interesting to compare the countries. Although Americans aren’t marked in a special caste they are still divided into social classes. The biggest difference is that in America, it’s easier to advance between the social classes. In India, it’s almost impossible to “climb the social ladder” to another caste. The Indian caste system has a long history and America hasn’t developed a system like the Indian caste system.
